Italy: Unionized railway workers to strike in northern regions April 22-23
Unionized Trenitalia and Trenord employees to strike in Lombardy, Piedmont, and Veneto, Italy, April 22-23. Transport disruptions likely.
Unionized rail workers plan to strike in three regions of northern Italy on April 22-23. The following work stoppages will occur:
Lombardy: Workers employed by Trenord will strike 03:00 April 22-02:00 April 23. City-level workers are not planning to participate in the walkout. Service will be guaranteed 06:00-09:00 and 18:00-21:00 April 22.
Piedmont: Trenitalia staff will strike between the hours of 09:00-17:00 April 22.
Veneto: Trenitalia train drivers and service chiefs will strike between 09:01-17:00 April 22.
Rail transport disruptions are likely, particularly in Lombardy and Piedmont, and may linger for several hours after the strikes end. Disruptions may continue during guaranteed service timeslots in Lombardy. Striking workers could picket at transport hubs; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that occur. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated travelers cannot be ruled out.
Reconfirm planned Trenord travel in Lombardy and Trenitalia travel in Piedmont and Veneto during the affected hours. Consider alternative forms of transport for critical travel. Avoid any strike-related demonstrations that may occur.
