Lebanon: Israeli airstrikes target Hizballah's military infrastructure in Baalbek April 6
Israeli strikes Baalbek, Lebanon, April 6, targeting Hizballah positions. Further cross-border violence likely.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly conducted airstrikes on Lebanese Hizballah positions (LH) in Baalbek on April 6. The IDF's airstrikes come a few hours after the LH shot down one of its drones flying over southern Lebanon with a missile. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Further cross-border violence is likely over the short term.
Avoid the impacted location until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized disruptions, allow additional time for travel, and seek alternative routes to circumvent the affected area. Heed all official directives.
The IDF has regularly retaliated against proejctile attacks by the LH. However, the IDF has increasingly begun targeting the LH's military infrastructure deeper inside Lebanon in an effort to deter the militant group from further attacks.
Baalbek, an LH stronghold, is located about 100 km (62 miles) from the Israeli border.
