Lebanon: Targeted Israeli strike kills senior Lebanese Hizballah militant leader in Kfar Dounine April 16
Targeted Israeli strike kills senior Hizballah commander in Kfar Dounine, Lebanon, April 16. Further violence likely.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claim to have killed Muhammad Shahouri, a senior leader within the Lebanese Hizballah (LH) militant group, in a targeted strike late April 16; Shahouri was in Kfar Dounine near Chehabiyeh in Lebanon at the time. Preliminary reports indicate that a second prominent LH commander who was traveling in a vehicle with Shahouri was also killed. The strike came a few hours after the IDF killed another LH commander in the Ain Baal area of Lebanon's South Governorate.
Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely in the affected area over the coming hours.
Avoid the area where the strike took place until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized disruptions and seek alternative routes to circumvent the impacted location. Heed all official directives. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time to reach destinations if operating in the impacted area.
Shahouri, according to Israeli authorities, belonged to LH's elite special forces unit, Redwan, and was responsible for the planning and execution of projectile attacks against Israel from the western and central areas of Lebanon.
The latest Israeli strike comes amid the ongoing cross-border violence between the IDF and LH militants. The IDF's objective is to deter the militants from further attacks against Israel and to force them to withdraw from areas near the country's border with Lebanon.
