Members of the Myanmarese community to rally at Parliament Grounds in Wellington, New Zealand, 12:00-14:00 April 9.

Informational

Members of the Myanmarese community, under the umbrella of Keep Out the Butchers of Myanmar, plan to stage a demonstration at Parliament Grounds in Wellington 12:00-14:00 April 9. The purpose of the action is to demand the New Zealand government reject visas for Myanmar military officials attending an upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting in Wellington April 18-19. Additional protests are likely in the run-up to the event. A previous similar demonstration attracted over a hundred participants.

Authorities will likely deploy to the site and monitor the demonstration. Localized traffic disruptions are possible, especially if protesters march along nearby roads. Isolated skirmishes between protesters and police are possible.

Exercise caution near the demonstration site. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the gathering. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
