Informational

A few dozen members of the Myanmarese community, under the umbrella of Keep Out the Butchers of Myanmar, are rallying outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade office in Wellington through 14:00 April 18. The action is to denounce the inclusion of Myanmar junta officials in a dialogue between New Zealand officials and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) representatives in Wellington April 18-19. Similar demonstrations are likely at the site until the event ends; activists have previously held peaceful gatherings in multiple cities involving up to a few hundred people.

Authorities will likely deploy to the rally venue and monitor any protests. Localized traffic disruptions are possible, especially if activists march along nearby roads. Isolated skirmishes between protesters and police are possible.

Exercise caution near the demonstration site. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the gathering. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
