Peru: Unionized labor activists to stage anti-government protest march in Arequipa from April 4

Unionized labor activists affitiliated with the Federal Department of Workers from Arequipa (Federacion Departamental de Trabajadores de Arequipa, FDTA) have planned an anti-government protest march in Arequipa City from 10:00 April 4 to demand the current president, along with the current members of Congress, step down and allow for new general elections to be held. Demonstrators will also demand an increase to the minimum wage. Participants have indicated that they aim to gather at the FDTA headquarters. The demonstration is likely to attract hundreds of participants.

Heightened security and associated business and transport disruptions are likely near the affected area. Clashes between protesters and police are possible.

Avoid the area of the demonstration as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building.
