Portugal: Unionized police officers to demonstrate in Lisbon April 12

Unionized police officers to protest at Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon, Portugal, from 15:30 April 12. Heightened security likely.

Warning

Unionized police officers plan to protest at the Assembly of the Republic (Assembleia da Republica) located on Praca da Constituicao de 1976 in Lisbon from 15:30 April 12 to demand improved wages and working conditions and coincide with negotiations between law enforcement union leaders and members of the government. It is unclear how many participants will attend; however, several thousand participants attended a related demonstration on Jan. 25.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and security staff cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
