South Africa: Authorities to close part of R21 in Gauteng for electrical repairs, April 27-28 /update 1
Authorities to close part of R21 in Gauteng, South Africa, April 27-28 for repairs; plan for delays between Pretoria and OR Tambo Airport.
Authorities will close part of the R21 highway between Pretoria (Tshwane) and Johannesburg in Gauteng, April 27-28. The closure will affect the R21 in both directions between Nellmapius and Olifantsfontein roads and services to the nearby OR Tambo International Airport (JNB). Closures will be in effect from 06:00-18:00 April 27 and 06:00-12:00 April 28. Officials are closing the road to repair a section of electric wiring after a traffic accident damaged a power line pylon on April 12. Eskom, the national energy provider, has not announced planned outages resulting from the repair works.
Road travel disruptions and congestion delays are likely, as well as along alternative routes such as the R57 and possibly the nearby N1.
Avoid the area. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the affected area and any related disruptions. Allow additional time to reach destinations, especially if traveling to and from JNB. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
