Czech Republic: Activists to demonstrate in Prague May 23
Activists to protest at Wenceslas Sqaure in Prague, Czech Republic, from 17:00 May 23. Counter-protest planned.
Political activists associated with the Freedom and Direct Democracy (Svoboda a Prima Democracie, SPD) Party plan to protest at Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske Namesti) in Prague from 17:00 May 23. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce EU policies and rally supporters ahead of the June 6-9 EU Parliament elections. Representatives of political parties from several countries will reportedly attend. Counter-protestors plan to demonstrate nearby. It is unclear how many participants may attend.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Rail disruptions are possible at Prague Main Station (Praha Hlavni Nadrazi). Confrontations between demonstrators, counter-protesters, and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near Wenceslas Square, including via Prague Main Station. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
