Explosives ordnance disposal teams plan to defuse a 2000-kg (4,400-lb) WWII-era bomb in Viterbo, May 7. The device was discovered during construction work in Via Alcide De Gasperi, in the Paradiso district. Local officials will establish a security cordon and will evacuate buildings within a 500 meters (550 yards) radius of the operation; gas supplies and other utility services will be cut off. Over 36,000 individuals will be evacuated, which corresponds to around 50-percent of the town's population. Multiple businesses will be affected by the order. Local authorities have organized shuttle buses and reception centers for the evacuation period.

Officials will maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until the disposal operation is complete. Crews will likely close roads in the affected area during the operation, causing localized traffic and business disruptions.
