Italy: Rail workers to stage strikes nationwide May 16-20

Unionized rail workers plan to strike across Italy May 16-20. Machinery workers employed by Mercitalia Rail will conduct a work stoppage from 21:00 May 16 to 21:00 May 17. Following this, machinery personnel employed by Trenitalia and Trenord will walk out from 03:00 May 19 to 02:00 May 20. Participation amounts remain unclear.

Should the strikes move forward, Mercitalia, Trenitalia, and Trenord disruptions are likely across their operation networks. Rail disruptions may linger for several hours after the strikes end. Picket protests are possible at Mercitalia Rail, Trenitalia, and Trenord offices, as well as at transport hubs. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any protests that may materialize.
