Italy: Railway maintenance employees to demonstrate in Rome June 3

Unionized railway workers to march from Roma Termini Station to Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in Rome, Italy, from 11:00 June 3.

Unionized railway maintenance personnel will march in Rome on June 3. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce changes to work shift rules. Participants will gather at the Roma Termini Station on Via Merulana before marching to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti, MIT) on Via Giuseppe Caraci. The protest coincides with a national strike by railway maintenance personnel between 21:00 June 2 and 21:00 June 3; however, the strike will not impact railway services. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend the protest march.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely at Roma Termini Station and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Railway disruptions are possible at Roma Termini Station in the late morning. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators, law enforcement officers, or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
