Lebanon: Israeli airstrikes target Hizballah's military infrastructure in Sefri May 5
Israel strikes Hizballah positions in Sefri near Baalbek, Lebanon, May 5. Further cross-border violence likely.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly conducted airstrikes on Lebanese Hizballah (LH) positions in Sefri near Baalbek in the Beka'a Valley May 5. The strikes resulted in at least three injuries. The IDF's airstrikes came a few hours after LH launched a barrage of projectiles toward Kiryat Shemona earlier the same day, wounding up to three people and causing material damage and power outages.
Heightened security and transport and business disruptions are likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Further cross-border violence is likely over the short term.
Avoid the impacted location until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized disruptions. Allow additional time for travel and seek alternative routes to circumvent the affected area. Heed all official directives.
The IDF has regularly retaliated against projectile attacks by LH; however, it has increasingly begun targeting LH's military infrastructure deeper inside Lebanon in an effort to deter the militant group from further attacks.
Baalbek, an LH stronghold, is around 100 km (62 miles) from the Israeli border.
