Workers affiliated with several agricultural unions, including the Vilcashuaman People's Defense Front (Frente de Defensa del Pueblo de Vilcas Huaman, FDP), began a 72-hour strike May 21-23 and are staging protests in Ayacucho on May 21. Protesters are blocking traffic in strategic areas of Ayacucho; disruptions are being reported along Via Los Libertadores, Avenida Mariscal Castilla, and Avenida Cusco, among others. The purpose of the strike and protests is to demand the suspension of mining activities in the Ayacucho Region.
