South Africa: Commuter train service on the Cato Ridge-Durban line in KwaZulu-Natal Province suspended as of May 12
As of May 12, rail service disruptions are ongoing on the Cato Ridge line in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Afri. Seek alternative transport.
Passenger rail service on the Cato Ridge line between Durban and Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal Province, is suspended as of May 12. The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) halted service after a freight train collided with a passenger train between Hammarsdale and KwaTandaza on May 9, damaging an overhead cable and part of the track. No injuries were reported. Repair operations are ongoing; it is unclear when service will resume.
Lingering rail disruptions will likely continue after services officially resume. Increased demand for available rail services may result in crowding on train station platforms and within carriages. Increased vehicular traffic congestion is possible in affected areas.
Reconfirm rail service in the impacted areas. Plan for increased demand on alternative available transport.
