Officials implement emergency power shutdown across Ukraine until 22:00 May 15; electricity rationing planned 00:01-23:59 May 16.
Ukrainian energy provider Ukrenergo is continuing emergency power supply disruptions through May 16 due to damage to national energy infrastructure caused by Russian military strikes and increased electricity consumption during freezing temperatures. The company has imposed a nationwide power shutdown between the hours of 19:25-22:00 May 15. Moreover, additional load shedding will take place with electricity rationing being in place from 00:01-23:59 May 16.
Transport, business, and telecommunications disruptions will likely affect areas subject to power outages. Malfunctioning traffic signals may disrupt traffic flow in some areas and lead to longer driving times. The electricity disruptions could also result in the temporary unavailability of essential services in affected areas, such as hospitals, ATMs, and petrol stations. Additionally, power disruptions could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the blackouts.
Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Exercise caution when driving in areas that are experiencing electricity disruptions.
