Ukraine: Authorities implement unplanned power shutdown nationwide until 23:59 May 14. Electricity rationing scheduled through May 15

Officials implement emergency power shutdown across Ukraine until 23:59 May 14; electricity rationing planned 00:01-23:59 May 15.

Warning

Ukrainian energy provider Ukrenergo confirmed that emergency power supply shutdowns have been implemented in all regions of the country until 23:59 on May 14. It cited damage to national energy infrastructure caused by Russian military strikes and increased electricity consumption during freezing temperatures. Officials have also announced that load rationing will be in place from 00:01 to 23:59 on May 15.

Transport, business, and telecommunications disruptions will likely affect areas subject to power outages. Malfunctioning traffic signals may disrupt traffic flow in some areas and lead to longer driving times. The electricity disruptions could also result in the temporary unavailability of essential services in affected areas, such as hospitals, ATMs, and petrol stations. Additionally, power disruptions could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the blackouts.

Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Exercise caution when driving in areas that are experiencing electricity disruptions. Park vehicles in secure areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel devices when necessary.
