Ukraine: Authorities likely to implement partial power shutdown nationwide through late May /update 1

Ukrainian energy provider Ukrenergo will likely continue implementing planned power outages for industrial and domestic consumers nationwide through at least late May. Authorities indicate that critical infrastructure will not be affected. Ukrenergo cites damage to national energy infrastructure caused by Russian military strikes as the reason for the outage. Further major Russian airstrikes could cause additional damage to Ukraine's energy network, prompting occasional unplanned outages.

Transport, business, and telecommunications disruptions will likely affect areas subject to power outages. Malfunctioning traffic signals may disrupt traffic flow in some areas and lead to longer driving times. The electricity disruptions could also result in the temporary unavailability of facilities such as ATMs and gas stations. Additionally, power disruptions could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the blackouts.
