Crews responding to structure fire in Ilidza, Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, late afternoon June 21. Tight security, disruptions likely.
Firefighters are responding to a structure fire at an apartment building near the Ilidza Police Station (Policijska Uprava Ilidza) in Ilidza, Sarajevo, as of late afternoon June 21. The fire location is approximately 550 meters (1,805 feet) from Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ); however, no disruptions related to the fire were reported at the airport. The cause of the blaze remains unclear. There are no immediate reports of casualties.
Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until firefighting operations are complete. Transport and business disruptions will probably affect the vicinity of the incident site over the coming hours. If heavy smoke reaches the airfield, air travel disruptions are possible at SJJ.
Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time for travel near the affected area. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including any evacuation orders. Monitor flight updates for travel via SJJ in case of disruptions. Consider remaining indoors to avoid smoke exposure, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
