Burkina Faso: Pro-government activists plan to demonstrate in Ouagadougou from 08:00 June 7

Pro-government activists to stage anti-UN march from Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, starting at 08:00 June 7.

Warning

Pro-government activists plan to stage a demonstration march in Ouagadougou starting at 08:00 June 7. The purpose of the event is to show support for the transitional government led by President Ibrahim Traore and denounce the UN's human rights watch report on the alleged abuse. Participants plan to rally at Place de la Nation (Place de la Revolution) before marching to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) located in the Zone du Bois district of the capital and to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) situated in the Ouaga 2000 neighborhood. The exact route and duration of the march remain unknown. The event could draw up to a thousand participants.

A heightened security presence and localized transport and business disruptions are likely along the protest route. Clashes with security forces cannot be ruled out, particularly if anti-government activists attempt to assemble nearby.

Avoid the demonstration as a standard precaution. Consider using alternative routes if operating near the impacted area. Heed the instructions of local authorities. If violence occurs, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building.
