Canada: Officials issue water use restrictions and boil water advisory for Calgary, Alberta, June 6, following water main break
As of the afternoon of June 6, restrictions for water use, and boil water advisory issued for Calgary, Alberta, Canada, due to water break.
As of June 6, officials in Calgary, Alberta, have issued water use restrictions for residents and businesses in the entire city and a boil water advisory for communities in Bowness following a water main break along 16th Avenue NW on late June 5.
The order mandates city residents to restrict all outdoor water usage, including watering gardens or trees, filling pools or fountains, and for construction purposes. Additionally, it asks people to voluntarily limit water use indoors, including delaying the use of dishwashers and limiting shower times. This order is also in place for the nearby communities of Airdrie, Strathmore, and Chestermere. Additionally, authorities ask residents and businesses in Bowness to boil all tap water for at least one minute before using it for brushing teeth, cleaning foods, making ice, or drinking it. Authorities have not said when the regular water supply will resume or when water will be safe to consume normally.
Commercial businesses that rely on large quantities of water may experience disruptions, including low water pressure until services are restored. Additional water outages are possible.
Secure alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
