Colombia: Water rationing likely to continue in and around Bogota through at least late June
Water rationing likely to continue through at least late June in Bogota, Colombia, and surrounding areas.
Water rationing will likely continue in parts of Bogota and surrounding municipalities in Cundinamarca Department through at least late June due to reduced water levels in nearby reservoirs. Officials have announced the following specific 24-hour outages over the coming days:
08:00 June 18 to 08:00 June 19: Areas of the Bogota localities of Antonio Narino, Barrios Unidos, Chapinero, Los Martires, Puente Aranda, Rafael Uribe Uribe, Santa Fe, Teusaquillo, Tunjuelito, and Usaquen; and the Soacha municipality
08:00 June 19 to 08:00 June 20: Areas of the Bogota localities of Fontibon, and Kennedy; and the Funza, Madrid and Mosquera municipalities
08:00 June 20 to 08:00 June 21: Areas of the Bogota localities of Antonio Narino, Bosa, La Candelaria, Chapinero, Kennedy, Los Martires, Rafael Uribe Uribe, San Cristobal, Santa Fe, and Usaquen; and La Calera municipality
08:00 June 21 to 08:00 June 22: Areas of the Bogota localities of Suba, and Usaquen; and the municipalities of Chia, Cajica, Sopo, and Tocancipa
Authorities will probably announce new planned service interruptions during the coming weeks. Officials have given no indication when the rationing measures may end but have indicated that scheduled outages will likely continue beyond June 22, and possibly extend into October. Some business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water for their operations. Authorities may impose additional water restrictions if Colombia continues to experience unusually dry conditions.
Minimize water use during rationing periods. Confirm and stock up on alternative water supplies for business purposes. Water pressure and quality may be poor after normal service resumes; consider running taps for several minutes before using water.
