Ghana: Unionized workers of the National Identification Authority to go on indefinite nationwide strike from June 10

Unionized National Identification Authority workers to go on indefinite strike in Ghana from June 10; possible administrative disruptions.

Informational

Unionized members of Ghana's National Identification Authority (NIA) have announced they will start an indefinite nationwide strike from June 10. The Public Services Workers' Union (PSWU) and the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) have also announced their joining the movement. Workers are demanding better working conditions.

Administrative delays are possible for the duration of the strike. Localized protests near NIA offices or government buildings are also possible, leading to increased security and possible localized travel disruptions.

Confirm administrative appointments if applicable. Avoid all demonstrations and plan for localized disruptions. Heed instructions from security services.

Ghana's NIA is responsible for the issuing of identification documents. This is the latest development in a series of negotiations between the unions and the government. Previous strike action had been planned for March 2024 before the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations managed to postpone the movement.
