A magnitude-4.9 earthquake occurs in Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran, at around 13:24 June 18. No immediate reports of damage or injuries.
A magnitude-4.9 earthquake occurred on the northern edge of the city of Kashmar in central Razavi Khorasan Province at around 13:24 June 18. The epicenter was about 2 km (1.2 miles) north-northwest of the center of Kashmar. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and moderate-to-light shaking was probably felt in Kashmar and surrounding areas, as well as light shaking throughout parts of northeastern Iran. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake; some minor damage is possible in Kashmar and neighboring areas due to their proximity to the epicenter. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Light aftershocks are likely over the coming days.
Officials may temporarily shut down transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone to check for damage. Minor disruptions could occur during shutdowns, but service will likely resume quickly if no damage is found. Utility outages are possible, particularly near the earthquake's epicenter.
Out of an abundance of caution, consider vacating multistory buildings where shaking occurred until authorities confirm their structural integrity. Monitor and plan for aftershocks.
