Authorities will hold a memorial and funeral for Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima in Lilongwe and Nsipe (Ntcheu) June 16-17. Chilima is among 10 people killed after a plane crashed in poor weather conditions June 10. The events will proceed as follows:
June 16: A ceremony will be held at the Civo Stadium in the capital. The body will then be transported to Nsipe (Ntcheu) for burial.
June 17: Burial ceremony in Nsipe (Ntcheu).
Security personnel will likely deploy near the events and may temporarily close roads to prioritize official motorcade movements, including to and from Lilongwe’s Kamuzu International Airport (LLW), to facilitate the arrival of dignitaries. Transport and business disruptions are likely in areas where heightened security measures are enforced, including along the M1 road connecting the capital and Nsipe.
