New Zealand: Lingering power supply disruptions possible in Northland through at least mid-June /update 2
Lingering power disruptions possible in Northland, New Zealand, through at least mid-June. Exercise caution.
Lingering disruptions are possible in Northland through at least mid-June following a transmission tower collapse in a rural area. As of early June 22, officials have successfully restored power to tens of thousands of affected users. However, utility provider Northpower has cautioned that certain consumers may continue to experience intermittent power supply issues for the next few days. Reports suggest approximately 200 properties are currently without power and numerous households lack access to hot water.
Although most functions have been restored, lingering commercial and transport disruptions could persist until power is fully restored. Traffic signals have resumed normal operation, although further malfunctions are possible. Businesses without backup generators may have to suspend operations. The outage may also prompt telecommunication disruptions and electronic water filtration systems interruptions. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences. Opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.
Northland is approximately 80 km (49 miles) north of Auckland. Glorit is approximately 50 km (31 miles) north of Auckland.
Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in Northland. Ensure that generators are functional if operating in affected areas. Confirm business appointments and transport reservations. Verify that security systems are working, including after power resumes. Stock up on drinking water and confirm alternative water supplies for business operations if affected by water disruptions. Minimize nonessential water use throughout the outage. Follow all official advisories.
