Pakistan: Jamaat-e-Islami party to protest over power and water shortages in Karachi, Sindh Province, from 17:00 June 26
Jamaat-e-Islami rally planned in Karachi, Pakistan, from 17:00 June 26 over utility disruptions. Increased security, disruptions certain.
The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) party plans to hold a rally outside the Karachi Water Board Office from 17:00 June 26 over power and water distribution problems. Up to a few thousand participants will likely march along the Shahrah-e-Faisal road to reach the site. Officials have announced traffic rerouting at Karsaz and Stadium Road flyovers; routes affected include those to and from the Jinnah International Airport (KHI).
Additional unannounced rallies are possible in the coming weeks due to persistent utility distribution issues. Popular gathering spots include K-Electric facilities such as the K-Electric headquarters along Sunset Boulevard Road, government buildings, public squares, the Karachi Press Club, and major intersections like the Teen Talwar Monument. Demonstrations typically occur in the afternoon and may involve hundreds of people.
Authorities will almost certainly monitor protests and move to disperse overly disruptive crowds. Clashes between police and activists are possible. Larger demonstrations may also result in localized business disruptions.
Avoid all demonstrations due to possible violence. Do not navigate roadblocks as protesters may attack vehicles. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately for a secure building. Allow additional travel time, especially to and from KHI the evening of June 26. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
