A magnitude-6.0 offshore earthquake occurred near Ica at around 10:47 on June 16. The epicenter was about 242km (150 miles) southeast of Ica. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 19 km (11 miles), and strong to moderate shaking was probably felt near the epicenter and in Ica, Arequipa and Ayacucho regions. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are likely over the coming days. The event has not prompted any tsunami advisories.
