Slovakia: RTVS employees to demonstrate in Bratislava June 10
Public broadcaster employees to protest at Ministry of Culture in Bratislava, Slovakia, from 12:30 June 10. Heightened security likely.
Employees working for public broadcaster Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS) plan to protest in front of the Ministry of Culture on SNP Square (Namestie SNP) in Bratislava from 12:30 June 10. The protest will be preceded by a march from the RTVS building on Mytna Street, which is likely to start at 12:00. The protest on SNP Square will likely be joined by activists linked to opposition parties. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce planned legislation dissolving RTVS, and it will coincide with a strike by RTVS employees taking place 12:00-15:30. It is unclear how many participants may attend; however, previous related anti-government demonstrations drew several thousand participants.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Previous related demonstrations remained largely peaceful; however, confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the affected areas. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
