South Korea: Demonstration ongoing near Seoul Station as of the afternoon of June 1

Activists gathering near Seoul Station, Korea, ahead of march, as of the afternoon of June 1. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Informational

Hundreds of Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) supporters are gathering on Sejong-daero near Seoul Station in Jung District ahead of a planned protest march as of the afternoon of June 1. The purpose of the action is to show support for DPK's proposal of the Marine Corps Special Prosecutor Act, as well as to denounce the current administration amid allegations that President Yoon Suk Yeol intervened in an inquiry. Lane closures are in place ahead of the protesters' march toward Daehanmun Gate, passing the National Police Agency. The specific start time of the march is unclear.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely in Jung District near the gathering sites and march route. Increased traffic congestion is likely on alternative routes. Although violence is unlikely, isolated scuffles are possible if police attempt to forcibly disperse the gathering.

Exercise caution around the protest march. In the event of violence, leave the area immediately for a secure, nongovernment building. Allow additional time for travel to nearby destinations; use alternative routes to circumvent march route. Heed all local security and traffic advisories.
