Warning

Emergency crews are responding to a tanker truck fire near the intersection of West Parkerville Road and South Cockrell Hill Road in DeSoto, Texas, June 7. Authorities have reportedly deployed to the scene of the fire, closed the abovementioned intersection, and asked individuals to avoid the area. Officials have also issued evacuation orders for residents in the vicinity, including those in the area bounded by Summerside Drive to the north, Elerson Road to the east, Richard Pittmon Drive to the south, and Keswick Drive to the west. Authorities did not immediately report any casualties in connection with the fire. The blaze has apparently emitted thick, black smoke.

Smoke from the fire may noticeably worsen air quality in the surrounding area over the short term. Lingering transport and business disruptions will likely affect the area that is subject to the evacuation orders. Authorities could extend the evacuation zone or close additional roads in the area on short notice to facilitate the emergency response.

Avoid the scene of the blaze until the firefighting operations conclude and emergency crews vacate the vicinity. Allow additional travel time in the area and consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the incident site and any transport disruptions. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including evacuation orders. Consider remaining indoors if smoke is heavy, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness, such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
