US: Authorities responding to hazmat incident in Matteson, Ill., June 27 after freight train derails

Authorities and emergency personnel are responding to a hazmat spill in Matteson, Ill., as of the afternoon of June 27, after 10 cars of a freight train operated by Canadian National derailed while carrying multiple substances. The incident reportedly occurred near the intersection of 217th Street and Main Street. Authorities have issued evacuation orders for those within a mile south and east of the incident site. Officials have not reported any casualties concerning the incident nor indicated when they intend to lift the evacuation order.
