US: Flash flood warning in effect for parts of northeastern Illinois until at least 03:45 June 23

Authorities issue flash flood warnings for parts of northeastern Illinois, US, until at least 03:45 June 23. Disruptions possible.

Warning

The US National Weather Service (NWS) has issued flash flood warnings for parts of northeastern Illinois as of late June 22. Flash flood warnings are in effect for parts of Boone, Lake, McHenry, and southern Winnebago counties, including Rockford and Waukegan, until at least 01:15 June 23, and northern Cook, southern De Kalb, DuPage, southern Kane, Lee, and southeastern Ogle counties, including Chicago, Aurora, Elgin, Evanston, and Naperville, until 03:45 June 23. Officials could update or amend the warnings for the impact areas or surrounding region in the coming hours.

Sustained heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in low-lying communities near rivers, streams, and creeks. Urban flooding is also possible in developed areas with easily overwhelmed stormwater drainage systems. Sites downstream from large reservoirs or rivers may be subject to flash flooding after relatively short periods of intense rainfall. Landslides are possible in hilly or mountainous areas, especially where the soil has become saturated by heavy rainfall.

Localized business disruptions may occur in low-lying areas; some businesses might not operate at full capacity because of flood damage to facilities, possible evacuations, and some employees' inability to reach work sites.

Monitor local media for weather updates and related advisories. Confirm all transport reservations and business appointments before travel. Make allowances for localized travel delays and potential supply chain disruptions where flooding has been forecast. Do not drive on flooded roads. Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged electricity outages.
