Severe weather causes flight disruptions at airports in New York metropolitan area, US, June 14; lingering delays and cancellations likely.

Warning

Flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, will likely affect airports in the New York metropolitan area into at least late June 14 due to thunderstorms impacting the region. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground delay programs at LaGuardia (LGA), Newark International (EWR), and John F. Kennedy International (JFK) airports, which are in effect until at least 23:59 June 14. The FAA may modify or rescind the ground delay programs on short notice. As of the afternoon of June 14, some flights to the airports in question are being held at their points of origin, delaying arrivals at LGA by an average of 90 minutes, JFK by an average of 173 minutes, and EWR by 172 minutes.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the New York metropolitan area over the coming hours. Residual disruptions are possible even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.

Confirm flight schedules if booked to travel via JFK, LGA, EWR, or another airport in the New York metropolitan area into at least early June 15; do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
