Interstate Route 43 (I-43) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, remains closed in both directions between West Capitol Drive and West Keefe Avenue as of the afternoon of June 20 as police continue their response following an officer-involved shooting. The incident began when officers began pursuing suspects in an armed carjacking in downtown Milwaukee and ultimately ended on I-43, where the shooting took place. Preliminary reports indicate that one person was killed and at least two others injured in the gunfire.

Heightened security and significant transport disruptions are likely in the area until at least late June 20.

Avoid the area until police complete their investigation and give the all-clear. Consider alternative driving routes and allow extra time for travel near the closed section of I-43.
