US: Weather-related flight disruptions likely to affect South Florida airports through late June 12

Flight disruptions likely to continue at airports in South Florida, US, through June 12 due to thunderstorms. Reconfirm flight reservations.

Warning

Weather-related flight delays and cancellations are likely to continue at airports in South Florida through late June 12. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground delay programs for Miami International (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) airports due to thunderstorms. As of the early afternoon of June 12, some flights to the impacted airports are being held at origin, delaying arrivals at FLL by an average of 7 hours and MIA by an average of 5 hours. The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice. Delays are also possible over the coming hours at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI).

The FAA may issue additional ground delay programs or ground stops for airports in the region that are impacted by severe weather over the coming hours. Disruptions could extend for several hours after weather conditions improve as carriers reposition aircraft and work through their passenger backlogs.

Confirm flight reservations if flying via MIA or FLL through at least the evening of June 12. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
