West Balkans: Power outages reported across numerous West Balkan countries June 21
Power outages reported across Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, coastal Croatia, and Montenegro June 21. Power gradually being restored.
Authorities in Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, the Dalmatia, Sibensko-Kninska, and Zadarska regions of Croatia, and Montenegro are responding to a regionwide power outage as of the afternoon of June 21. As of mid-afternoon, authorities have announced that power has returned or is gradually returning to the following locations:
Albania: Tirana.
Bosnia & Herzegovina: Banjaluka, Kotor Varos, Laktase, Srbac, Doboj, Tuzla, and Sarajevo.
Croatia: Dalmatia region.
Montenegro: Budva and Podgorica; power also reportedly never went out in northern regions of the country.
Continued disruptions are likely over the coming hours. Commercial disruptions are probable for any affected locations. Ground transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Disruptions to telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as automatic teller machines (ATMs) and fueling stations. Blackouts may adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.
Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
