Canada: WestJet maintenance workers call off nationwide strike as of early July 1 /update 3

WestJet technicians end strike across Canada as of early July 1. Residual flight disruptions likely. Reconfirm all flights.

Informational

WestJet (WS) maintenance engineers and technical workers represented by the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) have called off a nationwide strike as of early July 1 after successful negotiations with WestJet. The strike began June 28, with activists demanding pay increases. The strike resulted in the cancellation of over 800 flights.

Residual flight disruptions across WestJet's network are possible through July 1 as the airline repositions aircraft and works through its passenger backlog. Flights by the carrier's subsidiary, Sunwing (WG), may also be affected.

Confirm all travel arrangements if booked to fly WestJet or its subsidiaries through July 1. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive early at the airport to allow additional time for processing.
