Chile: Activists to gather in Rancagua July 23 and in Valparaiso July 24

Feminist activists in Chile to gather in Rancagua on July 23 and in Valparaiso on July 24. Localized disruptions are likely.

Informational

Feminist activists affiliated with several organizations, including the Chilean Network against Violence against Women (Red Chilena contra la Violencia hacia las Mujeres), plan to gather in Rancagua on July 23 and in Valparaiso on July 24. In Rancagua, demonstrators will gather from 12:30 at Plaza de los Heroes. In Valparaiso, participants will gather from 17:30 outside the National Congress building on Calle Victoria. The protesters will be demanding Senator Javier Macaya's resignation after supposedly defending his father, Eduardo Macaya, who was convicted of sexual abuse.

The protests will likely prompt localized traffic delays in both cities. During their protests, protesters may march to different locations in Rancagua and Valparaiso. The gatherings will likely remain peaceful, but clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to disperse demonstrators forcibly.

Avoid the protests. Plan for localized traffic disruptions. Leave the area immediately at the first sign of any security disturbance and seek shelter in the nearest secure location. Heed instructions from authorities.
