Chile: Protesters causing traffic disruptions in Santiago July 22

Protesters causing traffic disruptions in Santiago, Chile, July 22. Avoid protests.

Warning

Food handlers in Santiago are protesting in several parts of the city on July 22 to make labor-related demands. Protesters have blocked several roads with burning debris. Disruptions have been reported along Autopista Americo Vespucio near the intersections with Avenida El Valle in the Penalolen area and at the intersection with Avenida Vicuna Mackenna in the La Florida area. Disruptions along Avenida Recoleta near the intersections with Autopista Americo Vespucio and Avenida Santa Maria have also been reported. Police have deployed to the areas.

The protests will likely prompt localized traffic delays in several areas of Santiago early July 22. The gatherings will likely remain peaceful, but clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to disperse demonstrators forcibly.

Avoid the protests. Plan for localized traffic disruptions in Santiago. Leave the area immediately at the first sign of any security disturbance and seek shelter in the nearest secure location. Heed instructions from authorities.
