As of the evening of July 17, authorities are working to dispose of an unexploded WWII bomb found near St.-Toeniser-Strasse in Krefeld. The unexploded ordnance was discovered by construction workers earlier in the day. Authorities have established a 300-meter (984-foot) safety area around the bomb's location and have evacuated nearly 1,000 residents. Authorities have also closed several nearby roads; rail disruptions are ongoing. It was not immediately apparent how long the operation would last.

The evacuation order, heightened security, and road closures will continue until authorities give the all-clear. Rail travel in the evacuation area is suspended. Localized transport disruptions are likely near the evacuation zone.
