Lebanon: Israeli strike reported in Janta, Beka'a Valley, July 9
Israeli airstrikes reported in Janta in Beka'a Valley, Lebanon, July 9. Further cross-border violence likely.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly conducted a series of airstrikes in Janta in Lebanon's Beka'a Valley on July 9. The strikes allegedly targeted military infrastructure used by Lebanese Hizballah (LH). The IDF's strike comes at a time when LH regularly targets northern Israeli communities for projectile strikes.
Heightened security, transport disruptions, and business disruptions are likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Further cross-border violence is likely in the short term.
Avoid the impacted location until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized disruptions. Allow additional time for travel and seek alternative routes to circumvent the affected area. Heed all official directives.
The IDF has regularly retaliated against projectile attacks by LH; however, it has increasingly begun targeting LH's military infrastructure deeper inside Lebanon in an effort to deter the militant group from further attacks.
