Mexico: Multiple organizations plan to demonstrate in Mexico City July 11

Several groups to demonstrate in central Mexico City, Mexico, July 11; heightened security and localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Multiple organizations plan to host demonstrations throughout Mexico City on July 11. The most disruptive gatherings will likely be two protest marches:

  • Approximately 1,500 members of the National Assembly of Electric Energy Users (Asamblea Nacional de Usuarios de la Energia Electrica, ANUEE) have gathered outside the Federal Commission of Electricity (Comision Federal de Electricidad, CFE) and will march toward the National Palace.

  • Unionized teachers from the Front of Democratic Schools February 25 (Frente de Escuelas Democraticas, Febrero 25, FEDEF-25) will gather at 16:00 at the Angel de la Independencia before marching to the Zocalo. Their action is to demand improved salaries and working conditions. Approximately 600 participants are likely to attend.

Although the gatherings should remain largely peaceful, authorities will likely deploy an increased police presence near the demonstration as a precaution. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely along the march route.

Avoid the marches as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the impacted area. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
