Myanmar: Load shedding to continue in Yangon Region due to a power line fault as of July 3

Power line fault causing electricity disruptions in Yangon Region, Myanmar, as of July 3. Business disruptions possible.

Informational

The Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) is implementing load-shedding measures across the Yangon Region as of July 3, which could prompt temporary blackouts in some townships. A fault on the 230KV Mansan-Shwe Saram power line has been reducing the region's electricity supply by 20 percent since June 26. Officials plan to conduct repairs but did not specify a timeline for the full restoration of power.

Load shedding could impact business operations; companies without backup generators may suspend operations. Blackouts could also disrupt essential services such as water distribution, ATMs, and fueling stations. Traffic disruptions are possible due to malfunctioning traffic signals.

Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Plan for ground transport delays due to possible malfunctioning or nonfunctional traffic lights in affected areas. Exercise caution when driving in recently impacted areas. Park vehicles in secure areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working once power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel devices where necessary.
