Omani authorities are maintaining their heightened security posture across the country, including in Wadi Kabir, following a shooting that killed six people at Imam Ali Mosque, July 15. According to authorities, three assailants opened fire on Shi'a worshippers in Wadi Kabir around 22:30. The victims include four Pakistani nationals, an Omani police officer, and an Indian citizen. The attack also wounded dozens of people of various nationalities. The shooters have been eliminated by responding officers; however, there has as yet been no claim of responsibility by any militant group. Authorities have yet to release further information about the attackers.
Localized transport and business disruptions are likely in the affected area over the coming days as authorities continue their investigation.
