Authorities, citing security concerns, ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party rally planned for Tarnol, Islamabad, Pakistan, from 18:00 July 6.

Informational

Authorities have banned a planned rally in Islamabad by activists from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI); the rally had been scheduled to occur along National Highway 5 (N-5) in the Tarnol area from 18:00 July 6. Local police cited security threats associated with the Muslim holy month of Muharram. Police have raided the rally venue and confiscated equipment. Although organizers had originally vowed to hold the event regardless of police approval, latest reporting indicates they have canceled the rally. The purpose of the action had been to demand the release of detained PTI leader Imran Khan.

Enhanced security measures are likely to remain in place at the rally venue through the remainder of July 6.

Avoid all protests and navigating roadblocks as a security precaution. Allow additional travel time near any protest sites. If violence occurs nearby, immediately depart the area.
