Pakistan: Increased security likely around Quetta's red zone though mid-July
Authorities likely to maintain increased security around the Red Zone of Quetta, Pakistan, through mid-July after clashes July 11.
Authorities will likely maintain increased security around the Red Zone of Quetta through at least mid-July after clashes between Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) supporters and security personnel on July 11. The clashes were sparked when BYC supporters attempted to enter the Red Zone to demand the return of Baloch people who had allegedly gone missing. BYC supporters have attempted to hold a sit-in on Sariab Road since July 4. Initial reports indicate at least six police personnel were injured, with 27 people arrested.
Authorities will likely maintain increased security, including checkpoints and inspections, around the area to prevent further clashes. Associated transport disruptions are likely as police may inspect incoming vehicles. Associated business disruptions are possible. Additional protests and clashes cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area until security forces give the all-clear. Confirm road status, and travel reservations if operating in the region. Carry valid identification and remain non-confrontational if approached at checkpoints. Heed instructions from authorities.
