Peru: Social activists call for protests nationwide July 25-29

Activists plan anti-government protests across Peru July 25-29. Tight security, disruptions likely. Clashes possible.

Warning

Activists affiliated with a variety of social groups, including the National Unitary Coordinating Committee of Struggle (Coordinadora Nacional Unitaria de Lucha, CNUL), plan to hold nationwide demonstrations July 25-29 to denounce the government of President Dina Boluarte. Participants based in Lima plan to gather from 14:00 at Plaza Dos de Mayo on July 27. While most demonstrations will occur from July 27-29, participants based in Puno plan to start early from July 25. Organizers have indicated they'll gather at main plazas across Peru.

Heightened security is almost certain near gatherings, as are localized transport and business disruptions. Clashes between activists and police are possible.

Avoid demonstrations as a precaution. If clashes occur nearby, immediately seek shelter in a secure, non-government building. Strictly heed the directives of authorities. Plan for business and transit disruptions. Confirm appointments.
