Unionized medical staff to conduct 48-hour strike across Portugal July 23-24. Protests planned; medical service disruptions likely.
Unionized medical staff plan to strike across Portugal on July 23-24. The purpose of the industrial action is to denounce delays to salary negotiations. Participants are also conducting a work-to-rule strike until August 31. Participants will conduct the following protests July 23:
Coimbra: Hospital Geral Covoes (also known as Centro Hospitalar de Coimbra) from 10:00.
Lisbon: Hospital de Santa Maria from 11:00.
Porto: Hospital de Sao Joao from 09:00.
Medical service disruptions are likely in Portugal July 23-24. Disruptions might continue through early July 5 as medical staff clears the backlog caused during the 48-hour strike. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the planned demonstrations. Additional picket protests are possible at medical facilities across the country; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any such gatherings.
Reconfirm all medical appointments during the strike period. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Strictly heed instructions from authorities.
