Portugal: Unionized nurses plan to strike nationwide Aug. 2

Unionized healthcare workers affiliated with the Union of Portuguese Nurses (SEP) are planning to strike nationwide on Aug. 2 over a wage and working hours dispute. Striking workers could stage pickets near healthcare facilities or central areas of major cities. Essential emergency medical services are likely to remain available on strike days; however, the industrial action will prompt disruptions to healthcare services, including a reduction in available services and cancellations of routine appointments.

Healthcare services disruptions are likely on Aug. 2 and in the days following the strike as medical facilities deal with a backlog of patients. Increased security is possible near any picket that may materialize. Localized transport disruptions are possible if demonstrations are well-attended.
